Pennsylvania Has A New Brown Trout Record And It’s A Certified Freak

A Pennsylvania angler just brought in the state record brown trout while trolling with buddies on Lake Erie. The 33.75-inch fish weighed 20 pounds, 9 ounces, and beat the previous record, which was caught in 2000 by 11 ounces.

On August 8th, 2020, Robert Ferraro, of Erie, PA, had a ‘’big hit’’ on his rod while trolling in roughly 70 feet of water. After a 10 minute battle, a monster brown trout emerged from the depths and showed itself at the bow of Robert’s boat, named ‘’Heartbeat’’.

The crew was targeting walleye and steelhead, which they had been catching earlier in the week when the record brown interrupted their program.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has recently confirmed the new state record brown trout, which has etched Roberts’s name into the record books.

In addition to being proud of his record-setting catch, Robert also showed great pride in Lake Erie’s home waters. He hopes that the recent catch will help others in the area take advantage of and take pride in such a tremendous resource. Kudos to you, Robert!
